When will the Xbox One release? That is the question that is driving Xbox fans up the wall. During Gamescom, Sony announced that their Playstation 4 would release in North America on November 15 and Europe on November 29. Unfortunately, Xbox fans were still left guessing when they would see Microsoft’s next generation console.
I’ve been pretty confident over the last couple of months with the guess that Xbox One would release on November 5. My original thought behind this date was because it was the same release date as Call of Duty: Ghosts. The date also made sense to me because I was originally guessing that Sony was going to be in mid November (Nov. 12 was my guess) and November 5 seemed like the safest day for Microsoft to get out ahead of Sony. However, getting out ahead of Sony may not be the case anymore.
Kotaku has released an article that hints to a possible later release. Battlefield 4, Call of Duty: Ghosts, and Assassins Creed: Black flag will all be out by November 5, but Watch Dogs isn’t set to release until November 19. Microsoft has Watch Dogs as a “confirmed” launch title for the Xbox One. So what does this mean? Well, it would appear that the Xbox One won’t get the jump on Sony’s Playstation 4. Microsoft could release their Xbox One on November 19 alongside Watch Dogs, but I think that would be way too close to the Playstation 4’s release date. However, November 26 isn’t out of the question.
November 26 is the week of Thanksgiving as well as the biggest shopping day in America, Black Friday. Some may think that this release is way too late, but Microsoft did release the Xbox 360 on the Tuesday of Thanksgiving week. Why do I think history will repeat itself? The Playstation 3 released on a Friday and the Playstation 4 will too. Normally, retail Playstation and Xbox software releases on Tuesday which lead me to believe that Playstation would release their console on a Tuesday as well. However, I didn’t take into consideration that Sony released their PS3 on a Friday which ultimately led my guess to being 3 days too early.
As of now, Microsoft has not given us an official release date for the Xbox One. Truthfully, I thought that we would get a release date during their Gamescom show, but now I believe that they may be planning one more (in house) event. I don’t know if that’s true, but I do believe that they will try and get the very last (positive) word in before both of these consoles release.
